About the Program

An overview of the Penn State Smeal College of Business Master of Finance program.

The Penn State Smeal College of Business Master of Finance (MFIN) is a STEM-designated one-year immersive program into the world of finance. This program is designed for students with little to no background in business or finance and can better position you for a career in the financial industry in roles such as financial analysts, financial managers, loan officers, personal financial advisors, and more.

With the class size capped at 60, the program takes a very personal and experiential approach to education; each student receives individual attention and classroom instruction that applies to real-world situations through relevant classwork, case evaluations, and team projects. Students receive unparalleled access to world-renowned faculty who are specialists in their field and provide a prestigious, high-caliber education within a small, interactive classroom experience.

Our STEM Designation

Our STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) designation means that MFIN achieves the definition set forth by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is a testament of the quality and rigor of the program.

The designation also allows international graduates on F-1 visas to work in the United States for an additional 24 months via the extended Optional Practical Training (OPT), totaling 36 months.

This extended duration and designation is attractive to employers interested in hiring international students.
