Program Details

The Penn State Smeal College of Business Master of Finance (MFIN) is a STEM-designated one-year immersive program designed to prepare students for financial roles such as financial analysts, managers, loan officers, and personal financial advisors, even without prior business or finance experience. With a class size limited to 60, the program provides personalized and experiential education with individual attention, real-world applications, and team projects. Students benefit from access to world-renowned faculty, ensuring a high-caliber education within an interactive classroom environment. The STEM designation also offers international graduates an additional 24 months of work opportunities in the United States, making it an attractive option for both students and employers.

This program is designed for students with little to no background in business or finance and can better position you for a career in the financial industry in roles such as financial analysts, financial managers, loan officers, personal financial advisors, and more.

With the class size capped at 60, the program takes a very personal and experiential approach to education; each student receives individual attention and classroom instruction that applies to real-world situations through relevant classwork, case evaluations, and team projects. Our STEM Designation 

Our STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) designation means that MFIN achieves the definition set forth by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is a testament of the quality and rigor of the program. 

The designation also allows international graduates on F-1 visas to work in the United States for an additional 24 months via the extended Optional Practical Training (OPT), totaling 36 months. 

This extended duration and designation is attractive to employers interested in hiring international students.
